To stay in control of your life is to be aware of what you let into your life. While learning to love yourself in taking control of your life, you come to realize that you are the only one responsible for your life. Your life is the result of the decisions that you make, so be aware and make those decisions based on what you believe is best for you.
The fact that you are taking control of your life may be difficult for some to accept, particularly if they had any amount of control over you. A common way for people to try to stay in control of others is through guilt. How many times have you done something that you really didn't want to do but did it anyway out of the feeling of guilt? Guilt is a great manipulator. Be aware of this. As long as you are loving in what you do and know that what you do is for YOUR highest good, then there is never cause for guilt. If others have a problem with this, let it be THEIR problem, not yours. It's important to learn how to say no. It's tough to do but if you don't you will continue to be controlled by those around you.
A necessary step along your journey to "Simple Spirituality" is meditation. It is in this quiet time that you find your answers. Don't be turned off by the term "meditation", it is simply a time to be alone with your thoughts and to get into the habit of recognizing and following your "inner voice".
